By Rachel Schaeffer

I was recently crowned Miss New Jersey Corporate America 2023. What exactly does this mean? It’s the start of a journey that will take me to every corner of the country during my year of service. I will be responsible for conducting professional workshops, doing national radio and television broadcasts, attending seminars, and speaking to audiences about my passion for helping future women leaders. Especially those thinking of getting into or involved in the tech space, and I couldn’t be more excited about it!

Empowering women in tech

Over the last few years I have had some pretty great mentors. Before syncing up with them, I was flailing around on my own, day in and day out. I had no one to really “lift me up” or give me the advice that I so desperately needed. I know that there are a lot of women out there feeling the same way and I want to help them. Whether they are just starting or waist deep in it and need a fresh perspective.

This is a list of things that I’ve been trying to do more and that I definitely want to maintain during this year:

  1. Be nicer.
  2. Include people in things. For example, if you see someone eating by themselves at a conference or looking lost, ask them how you can help.
  3.  Do things without expecting anything in return. This has truly changed my personal and business life.
  4.  Lift others up.
  5.  Treat everyone the same way.

I want to continue my mission to help and inspire people. In the quest for the national title, I had huge support from great organizations like etherFAX and SuccessKPI. Both companies are allies to women in tech and have been my loyal supporters. I am a part of Partnership Leaders, Women in Partnerships and the Alliance for Channel Women and several other organizations. I hope that the combination of this platform with the Miss Corporate America title will help me reach more women and make a bigger impact.
