Are You Burnt Out or Just Extra Well Done?

There’s a fine line between being burnt out and #hustling. How do you know when you’ve gone too far? Let’s explore.

It can be hard to diagnose your feelings when we’re all living through a major world event… For the second year in a row. Most people have experienced many waves of emotions since March 2020 for a variety of reasons. COVID-19 has taken a toll on us all in many ways.

With that in mind, it can be hard to understand if you’re experiencing burnout, depression, or just exhaustion from the 24/7 negative news cycle. While these can all present in similar ways, there are three key groups feelings of burnout can fall into:

  1. Feeling physically & mentally exhausted
  2. Feeling a sense of distance, cynicism, and negativity about your job
  3. Losing a sense of efficacy in your job

How these displays will be largely influenced by your personality and how you typically respond to stress. However, as humans, we tend to suck at self-identifying how we’re doing. If you’re feeling unsure, reach out to a close friend, family member, or colleague and ask for their input on your recent attitude and emotional state.
