Google proved this week that if you can’t beat them, partner with them. Google and Shopify announced an epic-sized partnership that will expand Google’s shopping experiences. Shopify this year passed RBC as Canada’s largest publicly-traded company. What makes it even more Canadian is that CEO Tobias Lutke is an immigrant from Germany — he actually moved to Canada to ski in Whistler and started his first e-commerce store selling snowboards. Google announced the partnership at their I/O Developer conference, which will give the e-commerce platform’s more than 1.7 million merchants the ability to reach consumers through Google Search and its other services. To many, it’s a clear response to Amazon’s growth in the advertising business. |
